Former Millwood High School track standout and championship runner Gil Roberts has been charged with two misdemeanors stemming from an investigation of an Oklahoma City club he apparently owns and operates, court records show.
Roberts is charged with one count of allowing a person under 21 to be admitted into a bar area and a count of knowingly receiving, possessing, using or consuming an alcoholic beverage in violation of the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.
An Aug. 24 bar check by Oklahoma City police officers at Beach Bums Bikini Club, 4007 NW 10, revealed two partially consumed bottles of liquor, one in an office and one in a room next to the bar, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. The club is only licensed to sell low-point beer.
The investigation occurred because of previous criminal activity reported at the bar, including arson, shots fired, assaults and illegal conduct of dancers, according to the affidavit.
A 19-year-old man was also in the club during the bar check, records show.
A 17-year-old girl was employed as a dancer at the club, according to the affidavit. She told officers that she gave her state identification card with correct birth date at her interview, but was hired anyway.
Roberts told officers that he was the owner of the club and responsible for hiring the managers. A copy of the girl's identification was not on file, records show.
Though the club is billed as a “go-go bar,” undercover officers were given seminude lap dances, according to the affidavit.
“During the undercover contacts, the dancers would dance topless. In some cases, they would also partially remove or move their bikini bottoms to the point their genitalia was exposed,” the affidavit states.
No charges have been filed in connection with the seminude dancing.
William Tucker is listed as the owner and sole corporate officer of the club. Whether or not Roberts owns the bar or it is still held by Tucker was not determined, according to the affidavit.
Roberts, a Millwood graduate, attended Texas Tech University and placed in numerous competitions through 2012.
He finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter dash at the U.S. National Championships in June 2009, and was a member of the gold medal-winning team in the 1,600-meter relay at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships in March 2012.
