Former MSU coach Henderson dies at 72

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Former Mississippi State women's basketball coach Jerry Henderson died on Saturday after a battle with cancer. He was 72.

Mississippi State said services for Henderson were held Tuesday in Starkville.

Henderson was the coach at Mississippi State from 1989 to 1995 and also had a long high school coaching career at Madison-Ridgeland High School, Warren Central, Grace Christian Academy, Starkville Academy and Starkville High School.

Henderson served in the Mississippi National Guard and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame last year.

Survivors include his wife, Cricket; three children, a sister and two grandchildren.
