Defense attorneys will file their argument, and prosecutors will with their own. The next court date has not been set..

Throughout closing remarks, Hughes argued the woman was never in Venable's custody.

“Judge, there's no evidence,” he said. “Everybody says she was free to leave when they got to her house.”

Prosecutors pushed back, saying Venable told investigators it's possible the woman thought she was not free to leave because he was a person of authority.

Victim's testimony

The woman testified she had been drinking at a family barbecue in Macomb on June 20 and consumed at least 10 beers between 2 and 8 p.m. She then left her niece's house and went to meet her brother in Moore at a local bar, she said.

At the bar, she had more beer and liquor and then left to go home. She said she was driving home when the trooper pulled her over on the Broadway Extension in Oklahoma City.

Venable asked her to get in his car and the two began talking, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Once inside the car, Venable turned off the vehicle's camera, according to the affidavit. Investigators said the sexual contact started in the car when Venable told the woman she was pretty and she returned the compliment.

The victim testified they went to her house in Guthrie. She said she doesn't remember much from that night except a few details.

“I remember standing in my bedroom, and I hear the sound of Velcro,” she said. “The next thing I remember, we're in my bed.”

Venable said they went to her bedroom and had sex. He said the sexual contact was “100 percent consensual,” according to the affidavit.
