JAY — A former Delaware County middle school principal with prior drinking related incidents was found intoxicated and passed out in a Jay car wash on Thursday afternoon.
Roger “Shane” Carroll, 40, of Eucha, was arrested Thursday on a complaint of active physical control of a motor vehicle.
“He is being allowed to sober up (in a jail cell) and then will be released on an OR (his own recognizance) bond,” said Delaware County Sheriff Harlan Moore.
Moore said the “OR” bail was set due to prevent overcrowding issues at the jail.
Carroll tested .14 on a breath alcohol test, said Mike Shambaugh, Jay Police Chief. The legal intoxication limit is .08.
“He (Carroll) was found passed out in the bay of the automatic car wash,” Shambaugh said.
Shambaugh said the call came in around 4 p.m.
Carroll was found unresponsive in the driver's seat of a locked gold colored Mercedes-Benz, according to a probable cause affidavit. A bottle of McCormick Vodka was found in the passenger floorboard which was about three-quarters full, the affidavit states.
“Carroll was very unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was very disoriented thinking he was at Applebee's in Bartlesville,” the affidavit states.
Carroll turned the car off and removed the key from the ignition. Authorities believe Carroll tossed the key in an area covered with weeds after he was given and failed several field sobriety tests, the affidavit states.
