After a couple years of brushing off questions about the Belldozer package, Landry Jones opened up to Jon Gruden on the most recent episode of ESPN’s “Gruden’s QB Camp,” which aired Wednesday.

“Who is this quarterback?” Gruden asked.

“Blake Bell,” Jones responded.

“How big is this dude,” Gruden continued.

“Like 265, something like that,” Jones said.

“So you come out of the game on the goal line, and they bring in the Belldozer. What’s that like?” Gruden asked.

“It sucks,” a surprisingly candid Jones answered with a chuckle. “I mean, you’re glad your team’s winning, but it sucks coming out of the game. That’s for sure.

“It’s like you going to a huge game, and you not coaching it. You wanna be in there when it counts.

Jones would usually acknowledge that, as a competitive person, he would prefer to remain in Oklahoma’s games in short-yardage and goal-line situations, but his language was different with Gruden.

“It’s just another thing the defense has to get ready for,” Jones said. “If you like winning games, there’s no better place than Oklahoma to win football games.

“But, I don’t know, I wasn’t too … I mean, yes, in a team aspect, you want to win football games, but as a competitor, you want to be in there winning football games. If that makes any sense.”

Gruden spent much of the episode praising Jones’ skills, but did press OU’s former four-year starter into exuding more confidence.

Gruden, an ESPN personality and former coach of the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, listed off the quarterbacks Jones faced in college, like Robert Griffin III and Brandon Weeden.

“As a competitor you always think that you’re better than them,” Jones said.

Gruden wanted more.

“Come on, give me the goods, man,” Gruden said to Jones.

“I think I am, but, as a quarterback, you always think you are,” Jones said. “I think I’m better than RG3.

“RG3’s game’s a little different than mine, but I’m not gonna sit here and tell everybody that RG3 is better than me.”

Gruden asked Jones what an NFL team would get if it drafted him.

“A competitor that wins, that has won a lot of football games,” Jones said. “Proven over four years to win. In this business, in this time now, that’s what we’re here to do. No matter what it looks like, you want to draft winnners and you want to draft guys that know how to win games.”
