Former Oklahoma receiver Justin McCay impressing through Kansas spring practices

NORMAN — Former OU receiver Justin McCay has made a big impression so far through Kansas’ spring practices.

According to the Lawrence Journal-World’s Matt Tait, Kansas coach Charlie Weis said if they were to play a game Tuesday, McCay would start.

McCay, from Kansas City, Mo., redshirted at Oklahoma in 2010, and played sparingly in 2011 before opting to transfer.

The NCAA denied his waiver request for immediate eligibility, forcing McCay to sit the entire 2012 season.

The 6-foot-2, 213-pound McCay came to Oklahoma highly touted; Rivals considered him a four-star prospect and the 2010 recruiting class’ sixth-best wideout.

Earlier this month, McCay spoke to reporters in Kansas about his desire to return to action.

“Oh, man, I’m super excited,” McCay said, according to the Lawrence Journal-World. “I’m just ready to get out there and show everybody what Kansas football can really do. Not just myself. It’s not an individual thing at all. I’m just here to help the team out any way I can. I’m not a selfish guy at all. If I don’t play a down at receiver and I’m on special teams, I’m happy with that. I just want to play.”
