Former Oklahoma State QB Wes Lunt to visit Louisville Tuesday; Notre Dame to re-enter the mix?

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt will visit Louisville Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Joe Schad.

Lunt, who announced he would transfer from OSU earlier this month, has already visited Illinois. Lunt also initially requested a release to Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss, but all Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC schools, as well as Southern Miss and Central Michigan, were blocked as possible destinations by OSU coach Mike Gundy.

Notre Dame, a school not currently on Lunt’s release list, could also re-enter the mix as a realistic option after news surfaced Saturday night that 2012 starter Everett Golson was no longer enrolled at the school. A source close to Lunt has indicated to The Oklahoman that Notre Dame, which went 12-1 and played for the national championship last season, has expressed interest in Lunt.

The Irish appear to be thin at quarterback after the 2013 season, as likely starter Tommy Rees and projected backup Andrew Hendrix are both seniors. Notre Dame signed four-star quarterback Malik Zaire in its 2013 class, while former five-star quarterback Gunner Kiel transferred from the school to Cincinnati during the spring.

Lunt, who won the OSU starting job as a true freshman last spring, completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,108 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions in a rookie season marred by injury. He will sit out and redshirt the 2013 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
