A former Oklahoma State University instructor was charged Thursday with violating a protective order.

Ibrahim Landold Niankara, 30, of Stillwater, was charged in Oklahoma County with a misdemeanor in connection with an incident at a residence in Newalla on April 13.

Niankara was arrested after making contact with a woman at the residence, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the charge. He was released April 16 from the Oklahoma County jail, records show.

Nichole Manwell requested the emergency protection order in Payne County on the same day Niankara told a sheriff's deputy he showed up to apologize for his actions, according to the affidavit.

The relationship between Niankara and Manwell was unclear Wednesday. A spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office did not return calls seeking comment. The deputy who arrested Niankara could not be reached for comment.

Niankara was a part-time adjunct instructor at OSU. He is no longer an active employee or faculty member, said Carrie Hulsey-Greene, a spokeswoman for the university. His last day of employment was April 11.

Hulsey-Greene would not disclose the circumstances surrounding Niankara's departure, saying it was a personnel matter. Manwell, she said, is not listed in the school's directory for students and employees.

The affidavit shows Manwell heard a knock on the door and opened it to find Niankara standing in the doorway. She immediately shut the door.

Her father went outside and asked Niankara how he found the address for the residence, but Niankara would not answer, the deputy reported.

Niankara told the deputy that he was at the residence trying to apologize for his actions, the affidavit shows. has disabled the comments for this article.
