Former Putnam City High standout Xavier Henry was taken by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 12th pick in Thursday's NBA Draft.

Henry, who played one season at Kansas, was a McDonald's All-American and a Parade All-American in high school. He averaged 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game at Kansas. He shot 41.8 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

Henry, who is 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, was a three-time member of The Oklahoman's Super Five team in high school. After being drafted, Henry answered questions from the media.

What's the experience been like so far?

It's been great so far. Once I got drafted I saw my mama start crying, and that was it for me. Since then I've been doing interviews and haven't even got back to see my family yet.

What were your expectations for the draft?

I had high expectations, somewhere around the nine to 10 range. Once that was gone, I figured I'd be somewhere coming up, luckily I was only two spots back. I knew the teams picking around there were really interested for me. It's a good feeling to be in the NBA, but an even better feeling to be in the lottery.

Where do you go from here?

Tomorrow I fly to Memphis and have to get to work. I'll throw a pitch at a baseball game and do appearances. I get to do all the fun stuff, but the work comes right behind, and I'm looking forward to it.
