Former Oklahoma quarterback Drew Allen transferred to Syracuse for a chance to start.

He got that opportunity with the Orange. He started the first two games of the season, but struggled, throwing six interceptions and only one touchdown pass in losses to Penn State and Northwestern.

Sophomore Terrel Hunt started Syracuse’s third game and played well, completing 15 of 18 pass attempts for 265 yards and three touchdowns. The performance essentially closed the door on Syracuse’s quarterback battle.

Allen, who transferred last spring after it became apparent that he wouldn’t have a chance to start as a senior in Norman, spoke to reporters this week about his new situation, which feels an awful lot like his old one.

“(Coach Scott Shafer) just told me to be ready,” Allen said. “It’s kind of what I’ve been hearing for five years, so it’s nothing I’m not used to.”
