This approach would mirror the 2002 bond issue that funded the National Weather Center in Norman and the sensor center in Stillwater. It also would view the interests of the state as a whole, just like we did when we passed the $500 million higher education bond issue of 2004. I was the principal author of both; if I could figure them out, surely the current bunch of elected officials at the Capitol can.
It only takes leadership and the willingness to look past the next election. I hope the governor and legislative leaders won't miss this chance. It will not come along again any time soon.
