Former University of Texas and NFL quarterback Vince Young has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Young was the leader of the last Big 12 team to win a national championship, as he guided the Longhorns to the BCS title win over Southern California in 2005.

Over the last year, Young, 30, has been locked in a pair of lawsuits stemming from a $1.8 million loan obtained in his name during the 2011 lockout.
