Calvin Barnett is in the middle of his second season as a true force on the interior of the Oklahoma State defensive line, already tallying 11 tackles (three for loss), one sack and three quarterback hurries through four games.
But how does the big defensive tackle spend his time away from football? Why does he take pleasure in watching people get their cars repossessed? And what’s with his new haircut?
It’s all explained in this week’s edition of Four Factoids.
1. The mohawk is pretty much what most football players do. I haven’t had one since by junior year of high school, when we won state. And then I have “Savage” on one side and “Life” on the other. That pretty much started with me and my best friends in high school. We listened to these certain rappers and the next thing you know, they became like what everybody called us. That was like a brotherhood that we built, and it came from these rappers that we listened to.
2. I will get away from football. I go and hang out with (my friends in Tulsa) and chill with them most of the time. Nothing against my team or anything, but that’s how I relax, I get away from football. They may ask me about the game or practice or certain players, but they all know I don’t like to talk about football all the time. We always play NCAA 2014, NBA 2K14. We just sit down and play video games. And we all like dogs a lot. One of my friends actually just got a new dog. He drove 24 hours to get this dog, so we always do stuff (that is) non-sport related. My friends, they don’t look at me like I’m this football star. They look at me like I’m a regular person. So when we’re out — and there are fans that talk to me or are just in awe to see me — they look at me like, ‘Dude, you’re really not nothing.’ So that’s the good part. That’s why I love the friends that I have.
3. I’m a Chinese food person. I’ve been trying to stay away from it — it’s season time and it’s pretty heavy and unhealthy, but I love eating it. There’s a place called Hunan off of 6th and Perkins. I haven’t eaten it in a while. I’m trying not to. It’s so hard. But that’s where I go when I want something that I have to have.
4. One of my favorite shows is Lizard Lick Towing. I don’t even know what channel it’s on, but it’s so funny. Because sometimes it may seem fake, but it’s just the reality of it. It’s too funny sometimes how they go out they try to (repossess) people’s cars. It just trips me out how they really sometimes have to fight people to get their cars.
