When will Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy begin to fill some of the other vacancies on his coaching staff, other than defensive coordinator?

As for the two offensive assistant positions, Gundy doesn’t necessarily have to get in a big hurry with his timetable to fill them. Because of recruiting restrictions on how many coaches can be on the road recruiting at one time, it isn’t imperative to have a full staff.

Gundy is at the AFCA convention in Nashville, so that presents plenty of opportunities for interviews and other research on candidates.

Recruiting coordinator Robert Matthews is still considered a candidate for one of the openings, possibly as running backs coach, though nothing is certain yet.

Filling the director of operations position isn’t of a pressing nature, because assistant director Dale Patterson is still on staff.

There’s been very little recruiting news the last couple weeks. Is that reason for concern among fans?

Not really. There’s a dead period around the holidays, and a lot of recruits schedule visits during January, right up until signing day Feb. 4.

The Cowboys are hosting plenty of recruits and will have one crucial visitor this weekend. According to multiple Internet reports, Lancaster, Texas, cornerback DeMontre Hurst has scheduled a trip to Stillwater.

Cornerback is a key position in the last few weeks of recruiting, with only one current commitment at the position.
