It couldn't have gone much smoother for the Sooners.

They held the nation's No. 12 rushing team to 102 yards — less than half its average — and constantly pressured Horned Frogs quarterback Andy Dalton, coming up with three sacks.

The men inside — tackles Gerald McCoy, Adrian Taylor, Cory Bennett and Cordero Moore — dominated.

Because of TCU's threat in the option game, the Sooners blitzed little, meaning the pressure came mostly from a four-man rush.

"For our guys to get as much pressure as they did and get the quarterback running for his life a number of times out there was extremely encouraging,” said OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

Is the ‘Bradford for Heisman' campaign hitting a new gear?

After Saturday, Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford might just control his own destiny in the Heisman Trophy race.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow took a step back in his team's loss to Mississippi, leaving Bradford, Missouri's Chase Daniel and BYU's Max Hall as the frontrunners at the quarter post.

Hall's stats could stack up, but he won't be afforded the same national stage as Bradford and Daniel, who could be headed for a Big 12 title and Heisman collision course in Kansas City.

Should the Sooners be concerned with their rushing performance, which — after four sacks — produced just 25 yards on 36 carries?

TCU's defense sold out to load the box and stop the run, contributing to Sam Bradford's 411-yard passing day. So the Horned Frogs picked their poison and died a swift death.

Still, the yard-per-carry averages by OU's top three backs are startling: DeMarco Murray, 1.8; Chris Brown, 2.1; Mossis Madu, 2.8.

In retrospect, how good was TCU, which tumbled from the Top 25?

Check back in early November, once the Frogs have tangled with BYU and Utah. Their defense is stout, but the offense appears lacking.

For now, even the Sooners don't appear sold.

"The best team we've played so far, I think,” said linebacker Travis Lewis. "Cincinnati a close No. 2, but this was the best team we've played so far.”

Haha at all the Baylor talk. 17 meetings 17 OU wins. They will DESTROY Baylor.

1. Good Job Sooners! Keep up the attitude, but get better too! How? a. Find a Kicker Fast! b. look at the tape and figure out what happened to the run game and fix it! c. put a few more regular startes in on special teams coverage too. P.S. That TCU game was closer than it looked. OU has to be better for TX and Mizzou or they will go down. So get to fixin!

gentlemen.. you are up 35-3.. your award winning QB has taken a pounding... why not just run out the clock... save Sam any more abuse... and move on.. geez... what does it take to please you guys? Is numeral uno not enough???

Here are what I see as some trouble spots for the Sooners. One is the kicking game. Neither the kicker nor the punter appeared to be very strong. And the lack of adjustment in the running game, which was obviously not working, was surprising. The coaching has to be able to deal with problems like that at game time. When they finally did use a screen it payed off big. But to keep pounding into the line and failing to convert is going to cost them down the line.

Overall, an impressive passing and defensive performance.

OU needs another Red October like 2000 champs had. Then and only then will they show what moxey this year's team has.
Say it, isn't so - Sep 29, 2008 at 10:34 am
No, Ed is onto something: playing the Buffs in Boulder is never easy (all Sooners should know that, only too well). But for Sooner purposes, you have to hope that UT wins so that a Sooner victory in the Red River Shootout comes against a Top Ten team. What the Sooner should hope for is a narrow UT victory that bangs up McCoy and sends him back to his 2007 skittish Colt ways.
CECIL, Encinitas - Sep 29, 2008 at 10:12 am
Sure, Ed. Just like they showed how good the Big XII is on Saturday by beating Florida State. Oh, I forgot, they were pounded by a very mediocre Florida State team, weren't they.

Colorado will ruin the Red River Shootout this weekend...

I wish we were able to stay under the radar too, but no chance of that now. Texas, outside of McCoy, has no run game. Hard to ignore how well they have been playing too. This Baylor QB we are getting ready to face is pretty solid. The rest of the team is still Baylor though.

Yeah you're right. Colt does look good and Texas is laying low. Should really be exciting but Baylor first.
eudell, Virginia Beach - Sep 29, 2008 at 8:25 am
Colt McCoy may get in the Heisman race if he keeps up his current pace. OU/Texas is looking like a war. Go Sooners! Beat Texas!
