Four-star LB Josh Mabin commits to Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State landed a big commitment Wednesday night, with four-star Spring (Texas) Klein Oak linebacker Josh Mabin announcing via Twitter that he has pledged to the Cowboys.

“Newest Oklahoma State commitment for the class of 2014!” Mabin tweeted.

Mabin, a 6-2 and 225 pounds, also had offers from Baylor, Colorado, Boise State, Houston, Washington State and Louisiana Tech. But he told Rivals last week that OSU was his leader.

“After some time you kind of realize who is really sincere and I really like Oklahoma State a lot,” Mabin said. “My position coach and the DC, coach Glenn Spencer, he was the first to offer me. Since Day 1 sophomore year, the ACL injury, through everything, I’ve been in contact with him for three years straight and not a word has changed. I’m the man he wants and it’s shown. He has proof of that.”

Mabin said in that same interview that he would likely make a commitment early in the season. But the decision came much sooner.

OSU is the third linebacker commitment of the 2014 class, joining four-star Broken Arrow product Gyasi Akem and Pearland (Texas) three-star prospect Justin Phillips. That was a major need in the 2014 class, as the Cowboys signed just one linebacker (Tuttle’s Dawson Bassett) in 2013.

The Cowboys now have 20 total commitments in the 2014 class.
