Fox Sports Oklahoma will replay the 1989 OU-Texas football game at 7 p.m. Tuesday as part of its extensive OU-Texas programming next week. Redshirt freshman quarterback Peter Gardere rallied the Longhorns to a 28-24 victory.
Fox Sports Oklahoma, known in 1989 as Home Sports Entertainment, was able to offer the game live on a technicality. Led by new coach Gary Gibbs, OU was ranked No. 15 and on probation, preventing the Sooners from appearing on live TV. In a loophole with the probation, the game was offered live on pay-per-view through HSE’s sister network Prime Sports, which had the rights to show Big Eight games on tape delay.
Dave Armstrong, former referee Irv Brown and Bob Barry Jr. (sideline reporter) were the announcers.
