OU starting defensive end Frank Alexander returned to practice Monday, after missing Saturday's game with Utah State and all of practice last week with a sprained ankle.
Alexander, who had seven tackles for loss last season, is expected to play Saturday against Florida State.
Taylor feeling good
Defensive tackle Adrian Taylor's return from a broken ankle went better than expected.
Taylor didn't record a tackle but got in for about 30 plays. He said he "got stronger as the game went along."
Taylor had to sit out a day of practice last week resting his ankle and a sore back, but he was back on the practice field Monday despite the extensive contact over the weekend.
"I'm still not where I want to be," Taylor said. "But (the debut) went better than I had expected it to."
Jefferson solid in debut
One of the bright spots of Saturday's game was the first-time performance of true freshman safety Tony Jefferson.
OU started the game defensively with Jefferson in the nickelback and stayed in the alignment for most of the game.
Jefferson responded, finishing with four tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup in his debut. He also avoided any huge mental busts or getting beat in coverage, something that plagued the rest of the secondary.
"Tony played really well," coach Bob Stoops said.
The return of running back Mossis Madu from a one-game suspension should lighten the load starting back DeMarco Murray had to carry against Utah State, Stoops said Monday.
Murray had 208 yards on a career-high 35 carries, while backups Brennan Clay and Jermie Calhoun had only ONE carry apiece.
"He's a guy we'll have in there some," Stoops said. "I believe we'll be able to count on him to play well for us."
But don't count on Murray's load to lighten much.
"We'll see how the year is going and how he's feeling," Stoops said. "That's the high end. But still, we want to be able to get him, whether they're all carries, 30-35-40 touches."
Defensive tackle Casey Walker, on trying to pick up a fumble despite having one of his hands in a cast: "I saw daylight. I was trying to get busy. But I forgot about (my cast) and that I can't pick anything up."
