I'm grateful that Oklahoma's 3rd Congressional District is served in Washington by U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Cheyenne. As representative for one of the largest agriculture districts in the nation, composed of nearly half of Oklahoma's land mass, Lucas has been a champion for the American farmer in Congress since 1994. As chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, he's worked tirelessly to strengthen not just rural Oklahoma, but rural America through his leadership on the farm bill.
As an Oklahoma dairyman, I have a strong interest in seeing the farm bill passed. While the current House version doesn't include needed revisions to outdated dairy policy, I know Lucas will advocate for them in the conference committee. Americans without direct ties to agriculture may not realize that the proposed farm bill cuts wasteful spending, and includes programs to conserve our natural resources and gain access to growing foreign markets — which affects all of us.
Lucas is a crusader who understands the challenges faced by his constituents. At a time when Congress is paralyzed by partisan gridlock, Lucas cuts through the mud, puts his nose to the grindstone and gets to work. Getting things done, like we do here on the farm! I'm frustrated by Congress' lack of progress on the important issues like the farm bill, but I have confidence that Lucas will continue to push Washington to make the right decisions that will not only benefit my industry, but our nation.
