Set against the backdrop of children playing, representatives of the Fred Jones Foundation announced Friday that $75,000 will be donated to add theme-based sculptures throughout the children's area of Oklahoma City's Myriad Gardens.
Fred Hall and Kirk Hall said the awarding of the 2012 Mary Eddy Jones Signature Gift was an easy choice that won a unanimous vote from the Hall family.
The Myriad Gardens Foundation announced it will commission a local artist to create the sculptures, which will be completed later this year.
“The Fred Jones Family Foundation has presented us with an amazing opportunity to continue improving our Children's Garden,” said Maureen Heffernan, executive director of the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
“We're thankful to receive this gift and look forward to the day we are able to unveil these sculptures so all of the Oklahoma City metro can continue to enjoy the garden and our growth.”
The Fred Jones Family Foundation created the Mary Eddy Jones Signature Gift in honor of the late Mary Eddy Jones to continue her legacy in the areas to which she was devoted.
“My grandmother, Mary Eddy Jones, consistently sought to improve the arts, culture and beautification throughout central Oklahoma,” said Kirk Hall, president of the Fred Jones Family Foundation.
“We're overjoyed to have the opportunity to continue my grandmother's legacy by investing in the areas that meant most to her, especially now with the Myriad Gardens Foundation.”
The Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation and Sunbeam Family Services also each were awarded $10,000 in grants for the advancement of their organizations from the Fred Jones Family Foundation.
