Visitors also will get an opportunity to see some of the animals feast on specially prepared dishes. At 10 a.m., the Andean condors will relish a tray of meats and mice. Greens will be served at 11 a.m. for Galapagos tortoises at Island Life. Jaguars will dine on holiday ham at noon.

At 1 p.m., the gorillas and organgutan can expect pumpkin pie. Watch for them in their dayrooms inside the Great EscApe Interpretive Center. Will and Wiley, the zoo’s grizzly bears, will enjoy a second helping of potatoes, yams and ham at 2 p.m.

The zoo is at 2101 NE 50. For more information, call 424-3344.

Such short notice. I want to take my grandson but our day is already planned. Might sound like I'm a cheapskate, but since he is only 2, I don't know if he would get any more enjoyment out of just seeing animals than he already enjoys seeing his fish in a tank or playing with his dogs or cat. He would probably like to hug a bear.

This is great....we're the only city in the United States with a dedicated tax that we pay to the zoo and a few days a year they "let us in for free". Do I feel lucky or what?
