Free bus rides offered to help combat first ozone alert of 2012 for central Oklahoma
Oklahoma officials urge residents to take advantage of free Metro Transit bus rides or carpool on Friday, the first ozone alert day of 2012 for central Oklahoma.
Metro Transit bus rides are free Friday as part of a monthly promotion, and it couldn't come at a better time because Friday also is the first ozone alert day of 2012, authorities said.
Air quality is expected to be poor Friday in central Oklahoma, so officials are asking residents to reduce air pollution by carpooling or using public transit if possible, according to the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments.
Metro Transit provides free use of its buses every third Friday and encourages people to consider public transportation on ozone days.
