Bricktown’s free parking offer during last week’s season opener for the Thunder at Ford Center drew few takers.

For the second year in a row, visitors were offered free parking at the Bricktown parking garage and the Main Street lots during the Thunder’s first game of the season. Free shuttle rides were added to and from the Ford Center this time around.

"Ridership was low,” said Jim Cowan, director of the Bricktown Association. "They only carried 20 people before the game. And the lots only parked 35 cars (they have capacity for about 1,300).”

Operators of the garage, meanwhile, reported still having 200 open spaces as the game started.

"This all just goes to show parking is not as big a deal as it used to be,” Cowan said. "We’re managing it better than we were two years ago. It doesn’t mean we can’t make it better and we’re still working on recommendations from a parking study that was done, including getting attendants to wear uniforms with logos.”

Lots of good 5 dollar parking, but i refuse to give BOB HOWARD Ford my 5 bucks.. My car was vandalized inside there lot. and there salesman were rude...They were more interested in taking my 5 bucks then selling cars..

Yep, it's all about educating the public and making people aware! When I first moved here I had no idea where the parking was, the only visible parking was the lots that always filled up right around Bricktown. There was no signs or anyone to direct me to alternative places to park.
