A first-round matchup of two eight-win teams lived up to expectations as Blanchard held on to beat Cushing 41-33 in Class 3A. The teams combined for 39 points in the fourth quarter when Cushing scored four times, but TD runs of 57 and 30 yards by Braden Stringer helped keep Cushing at bay.
Brock Lamle threw three touchdown passes for Blanchard (9-1) including a 55-yarder to Kyle Self for the first score of the night. Gage Stallworth scored four times for Cushing (8-3) and Bingham Hightower threw two TD passes.
Blanchard advances to play Madill.
MIYAKE LEADS DEER CREEK
Deer Creek began the Class 5A playoffs with a 52-14 victory over Ardmore as Brennan Miyake scored three times. Miyake picked up a fumble and returned it 82 yards to give the Antlers (10-1) a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. He later caught TD passes of 8 and 40 yards from Joel Blumenthal, who finished with five touchdowns through the air. The others went for 25 yards to Kale Jackson, 37 yards to Jarod Rayburn and 28 yards to Alec James.
Deer Creek plays McAlester in the second round.
IRISH HOLDS OFF DUNCAN
Jacob Lewis' third touchdown run of the night, a 1-yarder in the fourth quarter, allowed Bishop McGuinness to put away Duncan and win 34-20 in Class 5A.
Lewis scored on two short runs in the first half and threw a 28-yard TD pass to Danny Krenger as McGuinness (10-1) built a 21-7 lead. Duncan (6-5) got within 21-13 on two field goals by Jack Braught in the third quarter. David Love's 11-yard TD reception put the Irish ahead 27-13 but Duncan closed a touchdown when Mario McCoy scored on a 2-yard run.
McGuinness plays at Bishop Kelley next week.
KINGFISHER ROLLS TO VICTORY
Kingfisher got two touchdowns each from Grant Newton, Landon Nault and Reid Trout, and its defense held Lone Grove to 69 net yards in a 56-6 victory in Class 3A. Nault's 51-yard TD run was the longest scoring play of the night. The Yellowjackets (11-0) gave up just 72 yards on the ground and limited Lone Grove (5-6) to minus-3 yards through the air.
Kingfisher will play Tuttle in the second round.
WARRIORS BEAT TECUMSEH
In Class 4A, Anadarko remained unbeaten as Brandon Pollard threw for a touchdown and ran for another in a 38-0 victory over Tecumseh. The Warriors (11-0) advance to play Fort Gibson next week.
