OCS moves on

Oklahoma Christian School picked up a 26-21 road win over Ringling in round two of the Class A playoffs, thanks in part to its defense. OCS had five three-and-outs. Zach Frankfort led with 10 tackles and two passes defended.

"We were able to run the ball,” coach Derek Turner said. "They run a traditional 5-2 (defense), and they had to pull themselves out of it. Jeff (Smith) had a big night, and that was another key for us.”

Next up, OCS takes on the Tonkawa-Dewar winner. Those teams play tonight.

"They’re two great teams, I just know we’re looking forward to it,” Turner said. "With Dewar, you have the kid that’s going to OU (Ronnell Lewis), and with Tonkawa, there’s a lot of history there.”

Douglass’ season ends

Douglass made the long trip to Broken Bow for the Class 4A quarterfinals but failed to come away with a win, losing 27-18 thanks to big plays by Broken Bow’s passing game.

"We closed it to 21-18 in the fourth quarter, but we just never made a play after that,” Douglass coach Willis Alexander said. "They did a great job of shutting our offense down. They made the plays when it mattered.”

Clinton goes off

Clinton coach Mike Lee doesn’t know if the 70 points his team scored in its Class 3A quarterfinal win over Checotah is a school record, but Lee couldn’t recall a bigger margin. And he’s been at Clinton for 22 seasons.

"I expected a dog fight,” Lee said. "They’re good on both sides of the ball. We did a decent job of containing them, and we were better up front. That was the difference.”
