Friends help couple celebrate 50th anniversary at rooftop party

Friends of Mary and Mike Mahaffey got together in Santa Fe, N.M., at a party hosted by the couple. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the party on the roof of the La Fonda Hotel. The party featured dinner and dancing to the music of the Pink Flamingos from Albuquerque, N.M.

Guests were asked to wear black tie and boots, and most complied.

Among the partygoers from this area were Lynn and Mike Kelly, Barbara and Jay Quillian, Barbara and Bud Beeler, Anne and Ed Dalton, Lela and Mark Sullivan, Joan Gilmore McLaughlin, Sally and Steve Bentley, Martha and Ron Bradshaw, Pat and Jay Edwards, Suzanne and Stan Cunningham, Barbara Watson, Sally Saunders, Melba Rhinehart, Kaye and Ed Cook, Judy Jordan, Joanna Champlin and Shawnee Brittain, Mark Mahaffey, Conrad Mahaffey, Pam and Bill Shdeed, Linda and Bill Rodgers, Sue Ann and Dudley Hyde, Mary Ann and Don Haskins, and Suzanne and Stan Cunningham.

Saunders and Watson entertained at a cocktail party for the Mahaffeys the next night.

SUMMER GET-TOGETHERChristi Coyle was hostess for a dinner for Junior League directors and membership council. Coyle is the league's membership vice president.

The hostess cooked dinner that included poached salmon, baked brie, pesto chicken pasta and cheesecake with raspberry sauce. Centerpieces were white, lavender and deep green flowers.

Board members attending were President Laura Ogle, Sarah Frank, Christina Nihira, Connie Nowell, Whitney Tero, Christi Woodworth and Pam Newby. Council members attending were Karie Bailey, Tyfanna Johnson, Denise Cramer, Sara Crooks, Mary Delafield, Ashley Duncan, Wendi Shipp, Ann Trudgeon and Sally Stringer.

SPECIAL EVENINGColorado College President Richard F. Celeste and his wife, Jacqueline Lundquist, were guests at a party given by Heather and Bob Ross.

The college, in Colorado Springs, Colo., was the event's focus. Alumni, students, parents and guests attended. Bob Ross introduced Celeste, who talked about the college and the new Edith Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Building, which will be dedicated in October. He told of the college's connection with Edith Gaylord and her father, E.K. Gaylord. Celeste discussed scholarships, admissions and fundraising.

Celeste is a former governor of Ohio, former head of the Peace Corps and former ambassador to India. He has been at the college for six years.

Guests included Lil and Bill Ross, Molly Ross Fritch, Becky Ross Roten, Jeanne Hoffman Smith, Joan Kirkpatrick, Jennifer Tubb and Tony Puckett, Diane Royse, Steve Elder, Julie Sheldon, Connie Baker and Melissa Tran.

FRIEND-RAISINGOklahoma City Repertory Theater board member Clarice Morrison and her husband, Dick Morrison, invited guests to their house for an art show, a chuck wagon dinner and to learn about the upcoming shows at City Repertory. The first show will be "The Laramie Project,” Oct. 3-5.

Attire was Western casual, and guests had cowboy stew and peach cobbler.

Guests included Carolyn and Jack Bedingfield, Jane Childs, Donna and Andy Cummins, Jackie West, Ellen and Jerry Duncan, Irma Elliott, Vonda and Jim Rice, Jan and Wiley Walker, Sharon and Ron Hendricks, and Shirley and Keith Hinchey.
