Frontier names its football players of the week
WHITEFISH, Mont. (AP) — Athletes from Montana State-Northern, Montana Tech and Carroll College have been named the Frontier Conference football players of the week.
Northern quarterback Derek Lear won offensive honors from the conference and the NAIA after passing for 532 yards and seven touchdowns and running for 74 yards in Northern's 46-39 win over Montana Western. The junior from Fairfield set an NAIA record with 606 yards of total offense and set Northern single-game records for touchdown passes, passing yards and total offense.
Montana Tech linebacker Mike Touzinsky received defensive honors. The sophomore from Temecula, Calif., had 12 solo tackles, an assisted tackle, four tackles for a loss, two quarterback sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in Tech's 24-6 win over Rocky Mountain.
Carroll kicker Tom Yaremko received special team honors. The senior from Happy Valley, Ore., punted five times for 209 yards and had 324 kickoff yards in the Saints 28-7 win over Eastern Oregon.
