OU Sooners vow there will be no fiesta in Miami this go-round

In the weeks leading up to last season’s Fiesta Bowl, many Oklahoma Sooners couldn’t wait.

Many players discussed how they were going to spend their free time in Phoenix more often than how they were going to outmaneuver the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The result of an unfocused team was an embarrassing 48-28 loss, a fourth consecutive BCS bowl defeat.

This time, even though OU is traveling to sunny Miami for the BCS National Championship on Friday, the mentality is different, the Sooners say.

"You haven’t seen one player talk about going down there to have fun. When they mention fun, it’s after the game, not before,” said defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, one of the team’s captains. "This is not a vacation. We’re not going down there to party.

"We’re going down there to play a game.”

Underscoring that mindset, the Sooners have moved curfew up. They will also spend just six days in Miami before the game, a day less than they spent in Phoenix.

"There is not going to be any party-type atmosphere,” said cornerback Dominique Franks. "We are going down there for one thing and that is to win a national championship.”
