Funeral planned for Norman parole officer killed in the line of duty

The Corrections Department reports several bogus memorial funds are listed on the Internet, attempting to collect funds. The official fund is The Jeffery McCoy Memorial/Children's Scholarship Fund at Banc First in Norman.

NORMAN — The funeral for slain parole officer Jeffery Matthew McCoy will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at CrossPointe Church, 2601 24th Ave. SE.

McCoy, 32, of Norman, was killed in the line of duty Friday in Midwest City.


He leaves behind his wife and two children, ages 7 and 4. The Jeffery McCoy Memorial/Children's Scholarship Fund has been set up at Banc First, 1201 W Main St., for the benefit of the children.

The Corrections Department reports several bogus memorial funds are listed on the Internet, attempting to collect funds. Please note the name of this fund and disregard any others, spokesman Jerry Massie said.

Massie released this statement on behave of the family:

“The family is hopeful and praying that the judicial system will proceed in a fair way to bring this to a quick resolution.

“This is a very difficult time for Officer McCoy's family, as well as his friends and his colleagues at the Department of Corrections. With the help of extended family, friends, and church family, Officer McCoy's family will face the days ahead with a positive attitude. Believing that God is comforting them in their pain, the family greatly appreciates the outpouring of care and concern, and is especially thankful for your thoughts and prayers.”
