Bledsoe, 53, of Edmond, died Dec. 22 in Oklahoma City after surgery for a ruptured aorta, his pastor said Tuesday. Services are 1 p.m. at the Mayflower Congregational Church, 3901 NW 63.

Bledsoe was appointed to the school board in June 2008 to fill a vacancy and was elected to the position in February 2009.

Earlier this month, he filed unopposed for the seat for a five-year term. He served as the school board president.

“Mark's intellect and his passionate, unwavering support for children and public education made a mark in this state,” Putnam City School District Superintendent Paul Hurst said. “No one knew issues better. No one advocated for children's needs with more insight and energy. He had an exceptional social conscience that was present in everything he did.”
