CONOVER, N.C. (AP) — Fred Funk continued his bogey-free play Saturday, shooting a 6-under-par 66 to take the lead after the second round at the Greater Hickory Classic.
The 56-year-old Funk, whose third career PGA Champions Tour victory came in May at The Woodlands, Texas, finished the day on Rock Barn Golf and Spa's Jones Course at 12-under 132, one shot ahead of Larry Mize.
Funk, a seven-time winner on the 50-and-over tour, extended his bogey-free streak to 42 holes, beginning with the 13th hole in the final round at last week's SAS Championships in Cary, N.C.
Mize, who has one career Champions Tour win, shot 67 to close the round at 133. He spent most of the day tied for the lead until Funk birdied No. 18.
Defending champion Mark Wiebe (69), Chip Beck (67) and Duffy Waldorf (67) were tied at 136.
First-round leader Dan Forsman, strugging with back problems, shot 72 Saturday to close at 137.
