There are other disadvantages. Most shelters put their available dogs on websites, and black dogs and cats are more difficult to photograph for most nonprofessional photographers.
“It becomes very difficult to show their personality unless you have the right lighting,” Phipps said. “It is harder to see the contrast in their facial features.”
Black cats suffer from the same problem and have an added disadvantage. Black cats are sometimes considered unlucky by people who are superstitious.
There will be 25 rescue groups on hand Saturday. Adoption fees vary from group to group, but all are inexpensive.
There also will be live music, a petting zoo for kids and food available for purchase. Vendor space is still available.
