EDMOND - Kathryn Gage has been named vice president for student services at the University of Central Oklahoma after a two-month interim stay in that position.
The announcement was made March 23. The vice presidential post was formerly held by Dudley Ryan, who retired Jan. 1 after more than 31 years of service to the university.
"I'm excited and honored to be selected," Gage said. "And with the assistance of the faculty, staff and students, I look forward to helping us do great things for this university."
Prior to her interim appointment, Gage served five years as director of the university's Career Development and Placement Services.
She said one of her immediate goals includes the continuation of "team building" among various student service divisions - a move to eliminate any barriers that may impede student service. She also sees student retention as a priority.
"Individual student goals vary," she said. "We will provide information and services on these varying goals to assure that all students are able to meet their objectives.
"When it comes to serving students, we plan to do whatever it takes to meet their needs."
Gage said her efforts also are focused on recruitment and enhancing campus life outside of the classroom.
