HISTORIC EARLY DAYS / OKLAHOMA CITY, OK / STREET SCENES / STREET CARS: Oklahoma City was rocked by revolution in 1903. The revolution was in the nature and direction of residential development in Oklahoma City. Prior to 1903, the future capital was a walking city, a town with no public transportation, where the 12,000 residents had to live close to their places of work. Someone living at NW 6 and robinson was a suburbanite. In 1903, all that changed with a single addition to the city landscape -- the streetcar system. It was a revolution that destroyed the confines of the walking city. Published on 08/15/1987 in The Daily Oklahoman. Original photo arrived in the library 11/24/1939.
