Official black and white portrait of Oklahoma state representative Gene Stipe at age 27 when he first ran for the Oklahoma Senate in 1954. Stipe is a native of Pittsburg County. He served in World War II, was graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law School and became a practicing attorney in McAlester. He was elected to the Oklahoma House from Pittsburg County in 1948 at age 21 and has served continuously since (through 1954). Stipe was assistant floor leader in the house 1953-54.
