Wearing shorts and cowboy boots and carrying a shovel, Brandy West stands where the front door of her family's home once welcomed guests. West was at her property shortly after sunrise to begin searching for salvageable items, mostly documents and her mother's belongings from inside the three bedroom frame house at 1006. S. Douglas Street. Her parents had lived in this house for 30 years before fire destroyed it. Residents in Luther were allowed to return to the their homes early Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, after they fled a rapidly moving wildfire yesterday that consumed at least seven structures on South Dogwood Street, leaving smoldering ashes where family homes once stood.
