Justin Lewis, 8, of Meeker extends his hands over an open fire as he and others gather near the fire pit, hoping to get some relief from the cold. The fire was part of a cooking demonstration by workers at Big Pasture Ranch in El Reno. The chuck wagon crew were making from-scratch biscuits and hot coffee for guests. Children with their parents endured cold temperatures and intermittent rain to come to the grounds of the Oklahoma History Center on Saturday, March 23, 2013, to participate in the 3rd annual Cowboy Round-up, billed to be a "rendezvous with adventure." Cowboys and chuck wagons were on hand to bring the cattle drive era to life for visitors of all ages. Special activities included pony rides, stick-horse races, roping demonstrations, branding, a medicine man show, biscuits made from scratch and cooked in Dutch ovens, and a chance for children to make a braided rope they could take with them as a souvenir. Youth were encouraged to dress the part as many did, wearing boots, vests, bandanas, chaps, and cowboy hats. Photo by Jim Beckel, The Oklahoman
