Aislinn McCubbins, 8, rides "Thunder" the stick horse in a race against Joe Inman, a member of the Norman Round-Up Club, one of several organizations that donated horses, ropes, materials and stick horses for children to enjoy during Saturday's activities at the History Center. McCubbins won the race. Children with their parents endured cold temperatures and intermittent rain to come to the grounds of the Oklahoma History Center on Saturday, March 23, 2013, to participate in the 3rd annual Cowboy Round-up, billed to be a "rendezvous with adventure." Cowboys and chuck wagons were on hand to bring the cattle drive era to life for visitors of all ages. Special activities included pony rides, stick-horse races, roping demonstrations, branding, a medicine man show, biscuits made from scratch and cooked in Dutch ovens, and a chance for children to make a braided rope they could take with them as a souvenir. Youth were encouraged to dress the part as many did, wearing boots, vests, bandanas, chaps, and cowboy hats. Photo by Jim Beckel, The Oklahoman
