Soldiers file into the room to the shouts, whistles and applause of their loved ones as the ceremony begins. At least 1,000 people, mostly spouses, children, relatives and friends, crowded into a large room in the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Norman on Saturday, Sep. 28, 2013, to give a boisterous, and at times, tearful welcome to members of the Oklahoma National Guard who returned to Norman after 10 months in Afghanistan. After a brief ceremony, which included a personal thank-you to his troops from Maj. Gen. Myles Deering, the soldiers were dismissed to an emotional reunion with their love ones. Deering serves as adjutant general of Oklahoma. Photo by Jim Beckel, The Oklahoman.
