Firefighters from OKC and Mustang were able to extinguish a grass fire in southwest Oklahoma City after it burned through a wooden fence that separated the flames from the Westmoor mobile home park, 7901. S. Council Road on Monday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2014. The fire burned a large field and the fence, and was stopped within 50 feet of a wooden structure in the park.
The mobile home property is managed by You Communities and their management team joined with OCPD officers in alerting residents in the park of the fire's approaching threat. Police tied yellow tape to the front doors of units after they made contact.
A fire chief at the scene said they were lucky the winds were down today. The weekend's high winds would have made the firefighting efforts much more difficult. One fire department rig became stuck in the mud while battling the fire. The unit was removed by a fire department wrecker. Photo by Jim Beckel, The Oklahoman
