Article Photos: OU student achieving big success with tiny bugs 11/11

Adult male jumping spider (Paraphidippus aurantius). Gaze into the eyes of a condemned man. Moments after Shahan took the five photos that were focus-stacked to create this single image, the jumping spider was attacked and killed by a female of the species. "To be clear," Shahan wrote on his Flickr page, "I took no part in his death -- I obviously enjoy spiders quite a bit and would never intentionally encourage them to kill each other. The female found and killed the male without any help from me -- she was bigger, quicker, and apparently stronger than the male and seemed to have no trouble getting him." Thomas Shahan - www.thomasshahan.com
