Serenity Deal Serenity is shown above and at left. The photo at left shows her in late January at a hospital after her father returned her to a foster home. She had black eyes and a swollen and bruised face. Both her father and the girl, then 4, said he had dropped her by accident. It was the second time in January she was hurt while visiting him. DHS workers accepted the explanation and placed her with her father in May. Her father beat her to death in June.
