Former Vice President Dick Cheney was keynote speaker during an event sponsored by Integris Advanced Cardiac Carer Saturday afternoon, May 5, 2012, in the Cox Convention Center. Chaney, who has a long history of heart disease, led a casual and informal discussion labeled as a fireside chat as part of the Advanced Cardiac Care heart failure symposium. The program was free and open to the public. Dr. Doug Horstmanshof, program co-director, said the symposium features the latest in heart failure therapies for physicians attending the event, but added, " we think it's equally important to honor our patients who have been given a second chance at life as well." Earlier this year, Cheney was the recipient of a heart transplant. Sharing the stage with Cheney were Susan Ford, daughter of former President Gerald Ford, Dr, James Long, director of the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at Integris, and Dr. Horstmanshof.
