People celebrate V-J Day on street cars in downtown Oklahoma City in August. The Oklahoman published an Extra edition, carrying the full text of President Truman's speech announcing the Japanese had surrendered. Formal documents on the surrender were signed Sept. 2, 1945, marking the end of the war for the 16 million who served.
