PATIENCE LATTING, OKLAHOMA HALL OF FAME FOR CITY AND TOWN OFFICIALS INDUCTEE: Patience Latting of Oklahoma City. Latting began her public service in 1964 when a federal judge appointed her to redistrict Oklahoma's Legislature. Her municipal service began in April 1967 when she became the first woman elected to the Oklahoma City council. Four years later, she again made history, this time on the national scene as the first woman to be elected mayor of a major U.S. city.
