"Our new mayor on the job, presiding over City Council." "Mrs. Patience Latting, sworn in Tuesday as Oklahoma City's first woman mayor, predicted the city will grow from a 'gangling adolescent' into maturity in the coming years. 'It will be a wonderful experience for all of us together,' she told city officials and citizens who jammed the City Council chambers to view the seating of the new mayor and four councilmen. She said elected and appointed city officials, city employees and 'you, the people, must all work together in setting our goals and in achieving them.' Mrs. Latting said the 82 years that Oklahoma City has been in existence is actually a very short life span for a city. (From an article in the 4/14/71 Daily Oklahoman.)
