In this Nov. 15, 2012 photo, Lucia Aguero lies in the hospital on the 50th day of her hunger strike in Coronel Oviedo, Paraguay. Aguero, a 25-year-old mother of two small children, was jailed after a chaotic pass through a hospital emergency room where doctors were too busy with the wounded to remove the bullet from her thigh. Aguero witnessed the “Massacre of Curuguaty” on June 15 when peace negotiations between farmers occupying a rich politician's land ended with a barrage of bullets that killed 11 farmers, including her brother, and 6 police officers. Aguero joined the hunger strike with others to protest being jailed without formal charges for the last six months. She lasted 59 days without food, and nearly died before a judge said she and three others could return home under police custody until the hearing. (AP Photo/Jorge Saenz)
