*Paralympian Cassie Mitchell won the world title in women's shot put at the International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France. The Warner native and Oklahoma State graduate also won bronze in the 800 meters and finished fourth in the discus. ... Jeremy Campbell, a paralympian who trains at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, won the world championship in the men's discus.
*Mary Beth Balcerak, 17, finished fourth in the women's high jump for ages 17-18 at the AAU Summer Olympics in Detroit. She competed against 58 others from the U.S. and its territories. Balcerak competes with the Plainview Summer Track Club. She will be a junior this fall at Pauls Valley High.

Hessman, who threatened last season to break Oklahoma City's modern record for most home runs in a season (38), is spending 2013 with the Louisville Bats of the International League. Hessman, in his 18th year of pro ball, has 22 homers for the Cincinnati Reds' top farm team; he's batting .237 with 111 strikeouts. A year ago, he had 35 homers for the OKC RedHawks while batting .231 with 136 strikeouts.
