McALESTER — An attorney representing former state Sen. Gene Stipe of McAlester wants a judge to prohibit Stipe's estranged business partner from transferring money and property which the attorney contends belongs to Stipe.

This week's filing is the most recent in a lawsuit filed by McAlester attorney Eddie Harper, in his capacity as the guardian of Stipe's property, against Steve Covington.

The latest filings on Stipe's behalf were made by Tulsa attorney John Carwile, who also previously has represented Stipe in court.

Carwile is requesting a temporary injunction to stop the alleged transfers of Stipe's cash and property.

A telephone message left Friday with Covington's attorney was not immediately returned.

Court documents filed by Carwile allege that between November 2006 and February of this year, several transactions occurred in which nearly $2 million in cash or assets belonging to Stipe were transferred to three other companies.
