Since we in Oklahoma City still are in the thick of the NBA Finals, “Get App-y” today goes for Week 2 of its focus on basketball-related mobile applications, just in time for Game 4 of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the Miami Heat Tuesday.
You have up to four more games this season to enjoy the free Basketball Connect app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touches from OneUp Games. The mobile application released in January is a fun one to play if you're like me and use your devices during the game to augment what's on the TV screen.
Basketball Connect is a bingolike social game that you play against real opponents virtually. It is similar to the board game Connect 4 in that you win when the events that occur in a real game line up on your game board in four spaces horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
When you open the app, you sign up and then select any NBA game in progress; this week, of course, there's only one matchup. The 16-square board populates randomly with players from both teams and specific events. You'll see squares that include events like a basket by Kevin Durant; a free throw (for any team); an assist by James Harden; a time out, a steal, etc.
As these things happen in the game, your squares start filling in and you get points as you work toward four in a row. The app uses real-time information filled in by Stats LLC and The Associated Press, said Daren Trousdell, CEO of OneUp Games.
